Eco Advantage Energy Advisors

Existing Homes

Eco Advantage Energy Advisors Inc. provides energy assessments and consultation to determine the overall efficiency of your home, and to help guide you with planning upgrades to improve the efficiency.

We perform a comprehensive review and documentation of your home, verifying the geometry, insulation levels, window types & condition, furnace & other mechanical equipment type & efficiency.  We also perform a Blower Door test.

This information is entered into a home simulation to determine where you are losing energy, and by doing this, we are able to make appropriate upgrade recommendations.

The simulation is submitted to Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), to qualify for up to $10,000 in rebates through NRCan and Enbridge.

Some local jurisdictions also provide additional rebates, often up to $5000.

After the upgrades are completed, we need to verify the upgrades to complete the process for the applicable rebate programs.

Check the fuel, types & efficiency of:

Furnace

Air Conditioning system

Heat Pumps (air source or ground source)

Water Heaters

Fireplaces

Heat Recovery Ventilator (or other air changing system)

Perform a Blower Door Test to determine the overall air-tightness of your home.

Critical areas to inspect for air leakage include:

Attic hatch

Electrical receptacles, switches, fixtures

Windows & doors

Basement Header (rim joist) Exhaust fans

Furnace & water heater chimney

Fireplace

Other penetrations

Initial findings are discussed with you, including cost-effective recommendations for energy efficient improvements.

Upon completion of all calculations and entry of data into a computer simulation of your home, a comprehensive Homeowner Report is mailed to you which includes:

1. A current home EnerGuide rating

2. A potential upgrade EnerGuide rating  (what it will be if recommendations are implemented)

3. Air Change Rate (ACH) - how many times per hour the air is changed in your home

4. Equivalent Leakage Area (ELA) - combines all the leakage into one opening

5. Potential Government grants
